Kate, With the introduction of Kindle and ibook, it has been so interesting for the last couple of years to watch the progress of interactive books. I wonder if in the future animation will be the norm in all magazines and books. Think about it...touch the strawberry on an ad and it pops on top of a photo of yogurt or touch a sentence in a novel and an illustration pops up on the screen. Hopefully this will all be a new and prosperous venue for art licensing. Mary Lou LaBerge
Kate, this is very informative and important to know. I see however the trend is in more visual then mental. Reading the words and comprehending the material will change. Learning on all levels will be altered. How will this effect the future of illustrators and artists? dmassa@roadrunner.com
I think this is why as designers we need to be skilled at embracing the possibilities. This in an incredible opportunity for self publishing and designing our own products. Even Google has created a new free piece of software where a non-programmer can make an sell their own apps (appinventor) Smashwords indie publisher website (who btw gives free ISBN numbers) just made a deal with a book app company to create apps out of books. It's a great time to be living as an artist.
